River Oaks Residence - 2002

This newly constructed home in River Oaks was so over scaled, that Beverly believed it needed to be brought down a notch or two. Beverly’s first thought was the need to unify the vast rooms. Beverly’s solution was accomplished beautifully in the decision to use Antique Palace size Indian Dhurrie Carpets, used in the summer. Perfect for the Houston climate year round. This was no easy task. The Design Team, and the client found themselves in Santa Fe for a day viewing Antique Rugs at Seret & Sons, one of the largest Antique Carpet importers in the country. The carpets were chosen for their size, quality, and color—which the artist client dictated as a priority. The carpets launched the palette of the whole project. Beverly knew that simple paint on the walls would not do. She enlisted Decorative Painter, James Smart of London to come over and do his Magic. He worked on the project for over a year.

“I have learned from years of experience you cannot buy paint off the shelf, and have it be the right color…”

ROR-03 The Living Room supports two seating groups united by a skirted center table, for Tea in front of the Fireplace. The colors of the fabrics were drawn out from the Antique Carpet.

ROR-05 The Family Room sports a bit of Whimsy with the Animal Prints on the walls, and reflected in the Fabrics. The custom Bibliotheca Coffee Table houses the Projection Television, much used by the Clients Children.

ROR-09 The Dining Room is Stippled in Ruby Red walls, “So complementary to the diner’s complexion…says James Smart.” Beverly had a Local Antique Dealer Reproduce a new round table, and used the client’s grandmother’s set of dining chairs and Persian carpet. The Italian Painted Screen was separated, and Framed as a focal point over the Antique Sideboard.

ROR-08 His Study is the epitome of a English Gentleman’s Club. From the Mahogany Partner’s Desk to the Period Gout Chair and the Owner’s collection of First Edition Books complete this Study. The walls and woodwork are Honduran Mahogany, set off by the Paint Finish by Smart.

The Powder Room has Sponged Raspberry walls, by Smart. The Brushed Nickel Sink and Faucet were set in the Client’s Grandmother’s Reproduction American Console.

ROR-10 The Breakfast Room, in the Kitchen, is a mix of Antique and Reproduction English Oak pieces. The Rug is an heirloom. The Beams were salvaged from an old Cotton Gin in Beaumont. Beverly found the Deer Head Trophy in Aspen. It is carved of Alder wood, much to the approval of the animal friendly client.
